昆山历史悠久、人文荟萃、产业先进，市域面积931平方公里，总人口超 300 万人，辖昆山开发区、昆山高新区 2个国家级开发区,花桥经济开发区、旅游度假区2个省级开发区及8个镇。沪宁高速等5条高速公路贯穿全境,京沪高铁等3条铁路穿城而过,链接苏州、上海的苏州轨交 11 号线开通运营。2023上半年，昆山完成地区生产总值 2375.2 亿元，同比增长 5.6%;规上工业总产值 5033.8亿元,增长3.6%。连续 18 年位居全国百强县市首位，获评全国文明城市、国家生态文明建设示范市。昆山拥有 6000 多年的文明史和 2000 多年的建城史，“百戏之师”昆曲发源于此，拥有“中国第-水乡”周庄等 4个中国历史文化名镇。提出“天下兴亡匹夫有责”的顾炎武、《项脊轩志》作者归有光、《朱子家训》作者朱柏庐、英雄航天员费俊龙、国家最高科学技术奖和“八一勋章”获得者钱七虎等都是昆山人，著名数学家祖冲之曾在昆山担任地方官。昆山还拥有以大闸蟹、奥灶面为代表的美食文化，以沈万三为代表的商业文化，以“昆石、琼花、并蒂莲”为代表的园林文化、以江南坪田为代表的农耕文化等，描绘出一轴古今交融、雅俗共赏的城市文化长卷。昆山是一座活力之城，新建昆山奥体中心等-批场馆设施，人均体育场地面积达 4.05 平米;承办汤尤杯羽毛球赛等国内外高水平赛事超 100 项次，全市体育事业、体育产业不断取得新突破。
Kunshan enjoys a long history, is home to multitudinous talented people and cultures, and houses advanced industries. With an urban area of 931 square kilometers and a total population of more than 3 million, it governs two state-level economic and technological development zones (Kunshan Economic and Technological Development Zone and Kunshan New and Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone), two provincial-level economic and technological development zones (Huaqiao Economic Development Zone and Kunshan Tourist Resort), and eight towns. Celebrities born in Kunshan include Gu Yanwu, who proposed that "everyone should be responsible for his country's rise and fall", Gui Youguang, author of Xiangjixuan Zhi, Zhu Bolu, author of The Family Instructions of Zhu Bolu, Heroic Astronaut Fei Junlong, and the August 1 Medal winner Qian Qihu. Zu Chongzhi, a famous mathematician, once served as a county magistrate in Kunshan. Kunshan also boasts the food culture with signature delicacies including hairy crabs and Aozao noodles, the commercial culture represented by Shen Wansan, the garden culture featuring "Kunshan stones, Viburnum keteleeri Carrière, and lotus with twin corollas on one stalk", and the farming culture represented by polders, which are tracts of low-lying cropland enclosed by dikes, in the south of the Yangtze River. They together constitute an urban culture that mirrors ancient and modern times and enjoys both elegance and popularity.Kunshan is a vital city. It has newly built venues and facilities such as the Kunshan Olympic Sports Center, increasing the per capita sports area to 4.05 square meters, and has held more than 100 high-level national and international sports events such as the Thomas and Uber Cup.
